Sprinkled throughout the movie (and also this web site) are the uniquely picturesque watercolor sketches of Chris McNally, a versatile illustrator and designer who lives and works in San Francisco, California.

Higher Grounds found Chris through Verve Coffee Roasters and their Farmlevel Digest project, which seeks to connect coffee consumers with coffee producers in different countries through a series of beautifully rendered coffee journals. Higher Grounds is grateful to Verve for graciously lending their Farmlevel Digest Volume 2 Panama art to the documentary and to Chris for creating new illustrations as well to add to this base, which sets the artistic tone for the film.
